It boils my blood when this sort of thing happens… wrongful removal of someone’s videos by greedy and spiteful corporations like Viacom. A great vlog Matt!!

I also miss your videos Bay!

Also check out my rebuttal video to Archie’s charges where I discuss how Archie Comics tried to sue a baby, how they tried to sue the music group The Veronicas, and how I ask Archie how my video parody besmirched the wholesome image of Archie when Archie Comic teamed their family-friendly icon with Marvel’s The Punisher.
Just type “Matt Hawes Archie Punisher” into YT’s search for that one. There’s a two-part version on this channel, but the complete video is on my other channel TheHappyShow.

On that Archie parody that was reinstated, I agreed to add another disclaimer at the beginning of the video. It kind of spoils the joke, but that’s the compromise Archie and I agreed on.
The introduction to the video is actually longer than the actual parody I created. LOL! I decided if Archie wanted me to point out it was only a parody and that they would never ever kill Archie, I would belabor that point. Heh. (continued)

Definitely fight wrongful removals, Jim. We can’t let these companies bully us when we did nothing wrong.
My two videos that were removed, but reinstated after I contested the removals, are “The Real Happy Life World” (I think that’s what I named it), and the “Archie is Dead” parody. You should check out all my videos about that Archie Comics mess. It was wild. Just type “Matt Hawes Archie Comics” into the search and I think all the videos will pop up. (continued)

Agreed, Matt. It’s all stupid. What’s the loss when some n00b with 4 subscribers posts a video with a copyrighted music track? It was dumb, sure, but did it really wreck Universal’s profits for the week? The n00b doesn’t understand, so you have to beat him over the head explaining it, and what did it accomplish? Nada!
But when it’s really wrongful, it’s the one chance we DO have to fight back.

Thanks, Darl! I’m amazed at how many people don’t believe they can make a difference when I know that they can. I always believe in fighting for what I believe to be right.

Hi Moosie! Yeah, every time I put up a video about copyright violation and wrongful removals of videos I get some comments from people who did violate copyrights and don’t understand why their video was removed.
I do think corporations are stupid about pulling music videos and such, but I recognize their rights in those matters. Unfortunately, the corporations don’t recognize our rights of parody and fair use in return, so we have to fight wrongful removals.
Thanks! — Matt

Yep, I was caught in that dragnet you mentioned. I wrote the EFF about my case and they never responded to me. Ah well. I won my battle without the EFF’s help twice now. But it would have been nice if they had at least responded to my letter.
Thanks!

You were quite angry about that whole situation, and rightfully so! I hope you are able to inspire others who have had videos wrongfully removed fight against the evil that is VIACOM! And any other evil corporation that tries to bully people around.

Admire your passion over this issue, Matt! Sometimes the little guy can win. You proved that.
September 6th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Well done, Matt! This is something that does need to be rehashed, for the sake of many people who DON’T know that there’s any recourse.
One problem I see every day in the “Help Forum”, though, is a huge number of people who get videos pulled for flagrant VALID violations and don’t understand why.
“But I put a disclaimer in the description giving credit for the music…”
“Did you get permission?”
“Well, no… but I own the CD…”
Etcetera…
